The GMC standards relating to medical education can be found in Promoting Excellence.
Most medical schools will provide training in presentation skills, reflective learning and portfolio development and you may also receive training as a peer tutor, peer assessor or peer mentor.
The opportunities for medical students to become involved in formal teaching may be limited but you can begin to develop the skills and competencies required of a teacher by reflecting on how the above outcomes, as demonstrated in your clinical and academic practice, can be translated into your future teaching practice. Students in the later years of medical school with a keen interest in teaching and training may also wish to explore the section for Foundation doctors .
Your Medical School will have a named contact and you should get in touch with them for further information.
