Non-medical trainers

The Scottish Trainer Framework was primarily designed as a tool to support medically-qualified teachers and trainers. Non-medical academic staff and other healthcare professionals will generally have access to other development frameworks relevant to their own profession. We recognise that medical education is increasingly being delivered by non-medically-qualified teachers and trainers, particularly at undergraduate level, and wish to ensure these professionals have access to the training and support they need to perform their role(s).

Academic staff and other healthcare professionals may find the information provided for those with a specific educational role helpful. Additionally, some members of this group will be performing roles requiring recognition by the GMC. Whilst the GMC cannot formally approve non-medical trainers, they will require the relevant Medical School(s) to recognise these trainers locally. If your role requires recognition under the new arrangements, you should consult the guidance for recognised trainers.
